Fighting Covid: Too early to start shaking hands at funerals

The HSE is asking people is ensure they continue to adhere to Covid-19 restrictions when attending funerals.

It’s as concern grows about the number of people — some travelling longer distances — showing up for some funerals, even though only 50 are allowed, with mask-wearing and social distancing still mandatory.

Dr Anthony Breslin, director of Public Health for HSE North West, says while it’s understandable that people want to express their sympathy and show their support to those bereaved, vigilance must be maintained when it comes to fighting the virus.

And he pointed out that shaking hands is one way of spreading infection.
