Calls for public bins to be mapped in Sligo ahead of tourism season

Calls are being made on Sligo County Council to map public bins in effort to identify gaps prior to tourism season.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo Drumcliffe MD, Cllr Thomas Walsh has made the calls adding that €5 million in funding has been provided to support local authorities ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer when it comes to staycations.

The objective of the funding is to increase the number of recycling and litter facilities.

Cllr Walsh said there will be a greater focus on outdoor dining and socialising and Sligo needs to be ready to avail of this boost to the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The Fine Gael Councillor says it’s vital that the county have a number of public bins at recreational areas ahead of the influx of visitors to the north west.
