Community groups struggling to raise stake for matching funding

The effectiveness of many community groups in the North West could be hampered in the coming months due to concerns over their ability to secure state funding.

Community Associations are required to provide matching funding in many cases before they can draw down government aid.

Events such as festivals were used to generate the matching funding for the several community groups across the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

With many festivals committees being forced to cancel events due to the Covid-19 pandemic it’s now feared that several community bodies without large cash reserves will be unable to meet the necessary criteria to avail of government assistance.

Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Sean McDermott is calling for calling for the easing of conditions in relation to matching funding for community groups.
