Sligo Councillor calls for greater discussion on miscarriage & stillbirth

Sligo county councillors have agreed to ask the Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys that working mothers and their partners be allowed take three days paid leave — rather than using their sick leave — when a pregnancy ends in a miscarriage or stillbirth.

The proposal is also to be circulated to all other local authorities in the country.

Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says miscarriage and stillbirth is more common than people realise, and it needs to be talked about more.

She told Ocean FM News why she put forward the proposals.
