Pringle welcomes move to give vote to those over 16

16-year olds in the north west could soon be eligible to vote.

A government minister has confirmed he will explore every avenue to give people over the age of 16 the right to vote in some elections.

The Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Malcolm Noonan, made the commitment.

Donegal Independent TD Thomas Pringle had called previously for the age to be lowered, claiming that many young people feel disconnected when it comes to politics.
