Town Centre First Strategy must take local challenges into consideration

The CEO of the Sligo Chamber of Commerce says that an ambitious new strategy and further support is required for town centres in the north west to help them recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chambers Ireland say that a ‘Town Centre First Strategy’ promised by Government,  will be integral to the sustainable recovery of local economies throughout the country.

It’s also understood that Chambers Ireland feel that For the Town Centre First strategy to be a successful urban living programme, it needs to re-energise cities and towns and allow them to become attractive places to live, work, and play. That transformation means putting the needs of people first.

Aidan Doyle is the CEO of the Sligo Chamber of Commerce, he says that Local authorities have a huge part to play in the recovery of towns and cities in designing them in such a way that they will be able  to capitalise on what is going to be an ‘outdoor door summer’.

He added that renovating spaces over shops and the development of ‘brown paper sites’ should be key priorities for Sligo.
