Ban on imported fracked gas welcomed

A local member of the Green Party has welcomed a new policy statement which bans the importation of fracked gas.

Minister for Climate, Environment and Communications, Eamon Ryan earlier this week announced a new policy statement that will prevent Ireland from importing fracked gas.

The statement, which has been approved by Government, will forbid the development of any LNG terminals in this country

The resolution was proposed by the Sligo Leitrim/Green Party and was presented to the Council by the Constituency’s Energy spokesperson and former Chair of Love Leitrim, Johnny Gogan.

Dr Bláithín Gallagher the National Coordinator of the Green Party says that after fracking was banned previously in the Republic of Ireland it was also important to extend the ban to cover the importation of fracked Gas.
