Traffic congestion expected to ease in Sligo

Traffic congestion and delays are expected to ease in Sligo town this afternoon.

It follows significant delays yesterday because of diversions due to road works on the current phase of the N4/N15 Sligo Urban Improvement Scheme, which involved surfacing works at the Duck Street Junction.

Among those affected were people travelling to the Covid-19 vaccination centre at the Knocknarea Arena at IT Sligo.

In a statement to Ocean FM News yesterday evening, Sligo County Council said it and its project contractors apologised for the significant delays experienced by motorists and other road users.

The council urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional journey time, especially at peak times.

The council also said it’s expected the surfacing works for this phase of the project will be completed this (Thursday) afternoon, when traffic flow should return to normal.
