Mica Protests planned for next weekend

Concerns in relation to the defective blocks crisis in the North West will be highlighted at a number of protests next weekend.

The presence of Mica and Pyrite in building blocks can cause cracking as well as crumbling.

The issue has been a concern for some time in Donegal and Mayo but it’s now also emerging as a problem in County Sligo.

The issue in Sligo was raised in the Dáil by Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Marian Harkin last week. The Independent TD called for houses impacted by the condition in Sligo to be included in a fund that has been established to cover the costs of repairs.

Protests are planned Ballina in Mayo next weekend while similar events are due to be staged in Buncrana, and Letterkenny.
