Cllr Naughton calls for investigation into shooting of Donegal man Michael Leonard, 48 years ago today

A Donegal councillor has called on the Minister for Justice to initiate a full investigation into the death of a Donegal man who was shot and killed by an RUC patrol in 1973.

The family of Michael Leonard is also lobbying Irish politicians to urge the British government to investigate the incident, which took place 48 years ago today.

The family say they presented new evidence in 2019 showing the shooting of the Pettigo man was not accidental.

Donegal MD Councillor Michael Naughton says there has been a failure to investigate Michael Leonard’s murder.

He’s calling on the Irish government to raise the matter with its British counterparts.
