Sligo make winning league start against Leitrim



Sligo footballers new era under manager Tony McEntee began positively on Sunday when they ran out 2-19 to 0-18 winners against 14-man Leitrim in a high-scoring and highly entertaining Division 4 North clash at Markievicz Park.

Second-half goals from Niall Murphy, back in the Sligo panel this year following a year out, and Cian Lally proved crucial against a gutsy Leitrim side, who had to play much of the game with 14 players following Aidan Flynn’s first-half dismissal, for a raised elbow on Sligo’s Conor Griffin.

Despite being a man down, Leitrim led 0-12 to 0-11 at half-time, but the extra man began to tell in the second 35 minutes and the two goals helped guide Sligo towards the two points.
