91-year old Donegal woman is Britain’s longest serving pub boss

A Donegal woman in Manchester is celebrating two very special milestones this week.

Nancy Swanick is not only 91, she is also Britain’s longest-serving pub landlady.

For more than 50 years, the great-grandmother has been boss at the legendary Peveril of the Peak pub in Manchester’s Great Bridgewater Street..

Nancy and her late husband, Tommy, lived over the pub, rearing three sons. Her husband and two of her sons, Paul and Thomas, have since died. She is now helped out in the pub by her other son, Maurice.

She spoke to our reporter Harry Keaney, who first asked her about her Donegal and Leitrim links.
