With restrictions easing, bishop says now’s a time of new hope

The Bishop of the Diocese of Elphin says he is looking forward to celebrating Masses with congregations again, the first time this has been allowed since Christmas Day.

50 people are now allowed in a church but it’s unclear if there could be more if people are in pods.

The numbers at funerals and weddings is also capped at 50.

However, only six people may attend a reception afterwards if it is to be held indoors, while 15 can attend if it is held outdoors.

Despite the easing of restrictions, Bishop Kevin Doran says people also have a responsibility to one another to continue to take all reasonable precautions.

Speaking at Mass in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception yesterday (Sunday), he says now’s a time of new hope.

Bishop Doran also outlined the situation with First Holy Communion and Confirmation in the diocese.
