Call for Armed Response Unit to remain in Sligo

A local councillor is calling for the Garda Armed Response Unit to be retained in Sligo.

Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh, who has submitted a motion for the next council meeting on monday, says the unit is normally based out of Ballyshannon and was split between both areas during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

He believes a unit should be retained permanently in Sligo as it can take over half an hour for members to respond to any incidence if they are only based in Ballyshannon.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor Walsh explains his reasons why it should be kept.
