Leitrim Council meeting hears calls for establishment of national graveyard fund

A Leitrim Councillor has called for the establishment of a ‘Grave yard Fund that would be used to provide funds for the upkeep and maintenance of graveyards throughout Leitrim.

Sinn Féin Councillor Brandan Barry at yesterday’s meeting of the local authority called for the Council in Leitrim to support the establishment of such fund.

The Drumshanbo based councillor says that although the Council own many graveyards they have insufficient funding for their upkeep and the responsibility for the maintenance often falls to local community groups.

Cllr Barry says a national fund could be distributed to community groups by the local autority.
