A Donegal TD has issued a stark warning that Troika style controls with major cuts to income supports could be on the way as the country attempts to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The warning have been issued by the Deputy Pearse Doherty.
He says such measures will particularly impact the North West region where there are a lot of low paid hospitality sector workers.
The Cabinet recently discussed revised spending estimates for several Government departments, including Social Protection.
Since March 2020, the department has spent more than €7bn on the PUP, with over €21m individual payments made.
The Sinn Fein Spokesperson in finance says that now is not the time to cut support payments:
