Over 100 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the North West

Over 100 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the North West in the Department of Health’s latest daily figures on Covid-19.

Donegal reported the second highest number in the country with 84 cases being confirmed. There were 9 cases in Leitrim and 8 in Sligo.

617 new cases were confirmed nationally.  There were also 10 additional deaths confirmed.

In terms of the latest vaccination figures 878,823 people have received their first dose

362,142 people have received their second dose.

The return of schools and people to workplaces appears to be contributing to a jump in Covid-19 cases – according to NPHET.

Professor Philip Nolan, who chairs NPHET’s modelling group, says there has been a rise in cases among 13 to 18 year olds.

But he says the increase could be temporary.
