Leitrim councillor says Ireland tends to ‘goldplate’ EU directives

The chairman of the Leitrim GAA County Board has expressed concerns in relation to the future of many rural areas in the county.

Enda Stenson says the current situation in relation to the difficulties associated with once off planning permissions in Leitrim has left a number of rural areas and small clubs on the verge of extinction

The leading GAA official’s warning comes just weeks after the Ballinalgera GAA publicly highlighted the difficulty it is facing in trying to keep its club operational.

Enda Stenson, who is also a Leitrim Independent councillor, says planning officials in Leitrim want to grant planning permission for once off houses but Irelands ‘willingness to gold plate’ European directives have tied their hands
