McSharry ready for Olympic trials

Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry is putting the finishing touches to her preparations for next week’s Irish Olympic Team Trials at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin (Apr 20-24th).

Ireland’s best swimmers will attempt to achieve the Olympic qualifying times in the respective disciplines during the five days of competition.

McSharry will swim in the 100 metres and 200 metres breaststroke events.

In February of 2020, Ocean FM Sport spent an early morning with Mona at the Marlin’s Swimming Club in Ballyshannon to see a typical elite swimmer’s training session for ourselves.

Ocean FM will break into the station’s regular programme this Tuesday from the opening day of the national trials, to bring you live commentary of each of Mona’s races in her strongest event, the 100m breaststroke.

She needs to swim 1min 07.07secs to qualify for Tokyo.

Her personal best to date is 1min 07.10secs.

All races will be streamed live on the Swim Ireland online platforms and on the RTÉ Player.
