Many people in Donegal and Sligo stayed within 10km toward end of March

Sligo and Donegal are among three counties on the west coast that saw an increase in the number of people staying local in the week up until the end of March.

Nationally, more people were moving beyond a 10 kilometre radius of their homes.

Dublin saw the biggest increase in the number of people going beyond 10 kilometres of home – however more than 77 percent of people in the capital still stayed local.

The CSO note that access to amenities and services in cities make it easier to stay local.

Nationally, 63 percent of people stayed local in the week that ended on March 31st – which is staying broadly similar to previous weeks.

Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo all saw increases in the week in the number of people staying within 10 kilometres of their home, with just more than half staying within the radium.

While, Roscommon and Carlow saw more than half of residents move more than 10 kilometres.

The data from the CSO is compiled using Three Ireland mobile phone users data.
