Calls for Basketball centre of excellence to be established in Sligo

Sligo should be considered as a location for a Basketball Centre of Excellence.

Basketball Ireland recently announced they are to develop 8 to 10 centres nationwide with Sligo/Drumcliffe Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh, calling for Sligo to be one of the locations.

He says it would mean the county could host training camps and fixtures for international sides, senior competitions as well as school tournaments.

Basketball has a long history in the region with Sligo All-Stars being one of the oldest teams in the country.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor Walsh says having a centre within Sligo makes sense.
