Finn Harps allocated €3.9 million for new stadium

Finn Harps have been allocated almost €4 million in funding to help build their new stadium.

The Minister for Sport, Catherine Martin, made the announcement on Thursday night.

The allocation appears to the signal that the long-awaited project can finally begin.

A provisional allocation of €3.991m will go to the FAI under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) for the development of the Stranorlar venue.

The new site is less than a kilometre from Harps current ground in Ballybofey.

Planning permission for the new stadium was originally granted in 2007 but construction hit various setbacks and ground to a halt during the recession.

The news comes as Finn Harps are enjoying a flying start to the new SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season, having beaten Bohemians and Dundalk in their opening two games to top the table.

Club Director Aidan McNelis explained to Ocean FM’s Austin O’Callaghan what the impressive performances on the pitch have meant for club morale off it.

The Finn Harps Mega Car Draw will take place this Easter Sunday night at 8pm.

The draw will be streamed live on the club’s social media platforms. To buy a ticket, visit finnharps.ie.
