Decentralisation lessons need to be learned if rural plan is to work



A former Sligo Leitrim TD says lessons from the previous decentralisation plan need to be learned if the latest initiative launched by the government to encourage people to re-locate to rural areas is to be successful.

 

Former Fianna Fáil TD and current auctioneer, Eamon Scanlon says many people currently living in large cities would relocate if an extensive long term plan was executed.

 

Eamon Scanlon says such a plan would need to address a number of issues including the shortage of accommodation in the north west, the issues in relation to one off planning permission and include scheme which would turn former commercial premises to residential units:
