Gerry McGowan joins Clare senior football management team

Tourlestrane’s Gerry McGowan will be part of the Clare senior football management team for the 2021 season.

The former Sligo intercounty star co-managed his home club (along with Eamonn O’Hara) to a five-in-a-row of Sligo senior football championship titles.

McGowan was also a selector with Sligo in 2018 with then manager Cathal Corey.

He now links up with Clare bainisteoir Colm Collins, who is into his eighth consecutive season as manager of the Banner football team.

Collins’ son Podge has also committed to county football (over hurling) for the 2021 campaign.

Clare will be operating from Division 2 of the national football league, having finished sixth in the table in 2020.

They were narrowly beaten by eventual All-Ireland semi-finalists Tipperary (2-11 to 1-11) in the quarter-finals of the Munster football championshp last year.

McGowan won’t be able to begin his coaching role in earnest until the current Covid restrictions on intercounty training are eased.
