Sligo’s Mona McSharry produced another set of impressive swims in the United States last weekend.
She was competing for the University of Tennessee at the women’s NCAA swimming championships. These are the national collegiate championships.
McSharry set new personal bests and school records in the 100 metres and 200 metres breaststroke. The latter event is her main target in terms of Olympic qualification.
McSharrry finished fourth in the 100 final and third nationally in the 200 metres breaststroke decider.
Here 200m time was 2:05.01.
She’s due to fly home to Ireland in April for the Irish national team trials in Dublin – where she will try to secure qualification for the re-scheduled Tokyo Olympics later this year.
