Harkin sees no support for gambling opportunities in Sligo

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says she sees no support for any proposal that would increase gambling opportunities in Sligo.

Independent Deputy Marian Harkin was speaking in advance of a meeting this morning of councillors from the Borough District of Sligo, at which adoption of a section of the Gaming and Lotteries Act is on the agenda for discussion.

Opponents argue the move would open the way for more gaming and gambling in Sligo.

However, it’s also been argued that councillors cannot stand over the current situation because it could be ‘discriminatory’.

Deputy Harkin says that when councillors meet this morning, they should ask if the proposal is good for Sligo and who, if anyone, wants the current situation changed.
