Fears growing that the number of medical interns in Sligo University Hospital will be reduced

There is widespread anxiety that the HSE will reduce the number of medical interns at Sligo University Hospital from 17 to 13.

Speculation has intensified locally over the last number of days in relation to the reduction in numbers.

Independent Sligo/Leitrim Deputy, Marian Harkin, says it ‘defies logic’ that such a decision would be made in light of the ongoing pandemic.

Deputy Harkin is calling on the HSE not to follow through with the proposal as the pressure on our healthcare system is enormous.

Speaking to OceanFM News, she says we need to increase the number of healthcare workers, not reduce.
