Appropriate Protection Of Wetlands and Peatlands could sink farmers



A north west farm official has expressed his concern with information from Brussels outlining some of the proposals being discussed concerning the upcoming review of the Common Agriculture Policy.

 

Gerry Loftus, Leader of  Ireland’s Future Organisation’ says he is concerned with details surrounding the ‘Appropriate Protection Of Wetlands and Peatlands’ adding that this should not be a condition to draw down Basic Payment.

 

The EU Council is now pushing for no ‘Farming Activity’ to be allowed on these lands – if this measure comes to pass North West farmers will stand to significant amounts of money.
