Funding increased for works on Donegal waterway access points

An increase of 20% has been made to the annual allocation of funding to Donegal County Councils for their development and repair work to be carried out on piers, harbours and slipways.

21 million euro is also being provided for the final phase of the 120 metre extension project at Smooth Point in Killybegs.

The funding was announced during a meeting yesterday between the Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine Donegal T.D., Charlie McConalogue, and the Donegal County Council Fisheries Committee

The meeting enabled the Minister to hear first hand the issues of concern and importance to the fishing sector in Donegal from Donegal County Councillors.
It covered a number of issues such as the impacts of the EU/UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement on fisheries, supports for fishers, and opportunities for investment in the industry,.

Donegal Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy is the Chairperson of the Donegal County Council Fisheries Committee. She says the fishing industry in Donegal has taken a battering due to Brexit
