Beef farmers left with more questions than answers

The national chairman of the Beef Plan Movement has raised concerns in relation to the current beef prices being offered by factories to farmers.

The Irish price is now 13 cents behind the Bord Bia Prime Export Benchmark price.

Patrick Rooney, a Donegal and Leitrim farmer, has described the situation as ‘unacceptable.’

Financial consultants Grant Thornton have admitted recently to the Beef Task Force that it doesn’t have the authority to access the information needed to produce a full and independent appraisal of the value of beef at all points in the supply chain.

Patrick Rooney says that the research by Grant Thoronton has left more questions than answers for the Beef Task Force.
