Local TD criticises government and EU approach to acquiring vaccines

A Fianna Fail TD has criticised the government and EU’s approach to acquiring sufficient Covid-19 vaccines in the Dail recently.

Sligo/Leitrim Deputy, Marc MacSharry said our supply procurement has ‘been an abject failure’ and questions why Ireland cannot seek separate deals like other countries in the block such as Austria.

Health Minister, Stephen Donnelly, said he has asked the vaccine taskforce to find out what avenues the country has to doing separate deals to get vaccines.

Speaking in the Dail, Deputy MacSharry said the EU ‘has made a balls’ of acquiring sufficient vaccines.

Deputy MacSharry also said the government are ‘dressing up mediocrity as efficiency’
