Former Donegal Sergeant express concern over weekend protests

A former Donegal Garda Sergeant has expressed concern over future protests that are planned for this weekend and St Patrick’s Day.

Retired Sergeant Christy Galligan made as the comments ahead of the Garda Commissioner meeting with two Garda representative bodies today, in relation to last weekend’s anti-lockdown protest in Dublin.

A number of Gardaí were injured and 13 people have appeared in court following the violence.

Meanwhile a man in his 30’s remains in custody this morning in connection to a firework attack on officers at the protest.

Christy Galligan, says a second planned protest this weekend in Cork City will be cause for concern:

Three men have been arrested following a street party near the University of Limerick.

A large gathering was reported at College Court in Castletroy at around 7.15 yesterday evening, with Gardaí issuing thirty fines.

Two men in their 20s were arrested on public order offences, while another man was arrested under drugs legislation.

The University Of Limerick says it will take ‘strong disciplinary measures’ against any student found to have breached public health guidelines.
