Harkin: Gov’t must get involved in bank closures

Independent Sligo/Leitrim TD Marian Harkin says the government should not hide behind the mantra of not having the authority to interfere with commercial business.

She pointed out there was no question of not interfering with commercial business when Ireland’s tax payers were forced to fund the financial institutions at the level of € billions in 2008 to rescue the banks.

She added that at a time when more and more people are working from home it was incumbent on government to look to the future and the services that will be needed.
