Pringle calls for SUSI grants to be broadened

Eligibility for SUSI grants needs to be broadened according to a Donegal TD.

Independent Deputy, Thomas Pringle, says students whose parents earn less than €24,500 a year but do not qualify for a social welfare payment, do not qualify for a top up grant.

SUSI grant applications have opened recently which he says are very important to people in the likes of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

The Tanasite, Leo Varadkar, says Minister Stephen Donnelly is carrying out a review of the system but that could take most of the year according to Deputy Pringle.

Speaking to the Tanaiste in the Dail, Deputy Pringle says the system is wrong.
