Hazelwood in Sligo among most popular forests in country



A Sligo forest is among Coillte’s top 10 most visited forests during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’s Hazelwood Forest, on the shores of Lough Gill, which was visited by 5,213 people in February 2020.

In December, 6,871 came to the woods there.

More than 23,824 visited Hazelwood between June and early August last year

The alluvial woodland at Hazelwood, sometimes described as ancient woodland, is among the finest examples in the country of such a habitat and is of very high ecological significance.
