Queenan: Everyone wants good phone coverage but not too many masts

A Sligo councillor is calling for telecommunications companies to place their equipment on masts that are already erected in an area.

Independent Councillor Joe Queenan says this policy should be implemented rather than companies erecting new masts or placing their equipment on buildings and structures.

Although the public demands better phone and broadband coverage, there has been local opposition in a number of areas to the erection of new telecommunications masts.

Cllr Queenan raised the issue at yesterday’s meeting of Sligo councillors from the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District.
