West of Ireland to move from Easter date

Golf’s West of Ireland Amateur Championship at Co Sligo Golf Club is set to be moved from its traditional Easter date this year.

The 2021 Championship was due to take place from April 2nd-7th.

However, the extension of the current Covid restrictions until Easter means it will not be possible for Rosses Point to host the event on its planned dates.

Instead, Golf Ireland is currently engaging with clubs hosting the country’s main championships this year to find an alternative slot on the schedule this year.

The ‘West’ moved from its traditional Easter date two years ago to facilitate Co Sligo’s hosting of the 2019 Flogas Irish Amateur Open.

The West of Ireland wasn’t held last year because of the pandemic.
