Water safety forum required to prevent tragedy in Sligo



Calls have been made for a Water safety forum to be established for Sligo in anticipation of what could be another busy summer for the region with large numbers of people expected to engage in staycations in the North West in 2021.

 

With international travel restrictions set to be in place for this summer large numbers are expected to visit the north west during the holiday season.

 

With a number of near misses having been reported last year in relation to water incidents, Sligo Stranhill Councillor Sinead Maguire has called for the water safety forum to cover the entire county.

 

The Fine Gael Councillor says current safety measures are not adequate and that several people had to be rescued in the county last year.
