Sligo manager wants clarity from GAA on return-to-play

The Sligo gaelic footballers are due to meet meet online tonight (Thursday) to digest the news that no intercounty football activity will be possible until April at the earliest.

The Government decision announced on Wednesday means that inter-county activity is no longer allowed under level 5 restrictions.

No training or games wil be permitted until at least the Easter weekend, which falls on April the 3rd and 4th – and that’s the best case scenario.

Sligo manager Tony McEntee is unhappy with the lack of clarity from Croke Park on the return to play.

Speaking to The GAA Hour podcast on Thursday, McEntee wondered when did the GAA know that intercounty football and hurling were no longer on the elite sport exemption list.

McEntee also confirmed that former Sligo captain Niall Murphy is involved with the county panel again for the 2021 season.

The Coolera/Strandhill took a year out from intercounty football in 2020.
