Trailer and van loads of rubbish, including mattresses, fridges and electrical goods, are being dumped on land in scenic areas of Sligo, with innocent landowners being held responsible.
That’s according to a north Sligo councillor who says that, in such cases, landowners must be treated as victims.
Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy says it’s not fair or just that innocent property owners should have to shoulder the responsibility and cleanup costs.
He says if this continues, landowners who allow public access to their land in scenic areas will withdraw their consent, making Sligo a less attractive place for visitors and locals.
