Could North Sligo/North Leitrim be the Yorkshire Dales of Ireland?

A Sligo councillor is calling for cooperation between Sligo County Council, Leitrim County Council and the North West Regional Assembly to progress the idea of developing a national recreation area across north Sligo and north Leitrim.

Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy says he is not thinking of a closed space or park but rather an open, living area like in areas of England and Scotland, an example being the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Fianna Fail Councillor Justin Warnock has been pushing a similar idea in Leitrim.

Cllr Gilroy raised the issue at this morning’s meeting of Sligo County Council.
