TD accuses government of not even trying to pursue Zero Covid strategy

A Donegal TD is accusing the government of not even trying to pursue an all Ireland ‘Zero Covid’ strategy.

Independent Deputy, Thomas Pringle, submitted Freedom of Information requests in October seeking detailed documents of talks between Ireland and Northern Ireland which he says there is ‘little evidence’ of.

He highlighted the success of other Island nations, Australia and New Zealand, where life has returned to relative normalcy.

Speaking in the Dail, Deputy Pringle says the information he received indicates no discussions have taken place.

In response the Taoiseach says a Zero Covid strategy has been dicussed however, the government never received public health advice to pursue one.

Micheal Martin says there is continuing cooperation between north and south and that it’s easy for people to blame the Dublin government when the reality is much different.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, says it would not be possible in Ireland.
