Tributes to the late Bernard Brennan, retired District Court judge

The death has occurred of the retired District Court Judge Bernard Brennan.

He was a native of Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.

He became a solicitor after returning from the U.S. and was appointed a ‘moveable’ Judge in 1979.

He was assigned to the Donegal District No 1 in the Spring of 1981.

In October 1982 he moved to District 4, which covered Roscommon and parts of Mayo and Galway, replacing Killala, Co Mayo native Judge James Gilvarry, who came to the Sligo area.

Judge Brennan retired in August 1999.

Apart from his legal career, he had many other interests, including amateur drama, sport and rearing pedigree cattle, as Tubbercurry-based auctioneer Roger McCarrick has been telling Ocean FM News.
