Feighan says progress being made in battle against Covid

The Junior Minister for Health and Sligo/Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says progress is being made in the fight against Covid-19.

That’s despite a record figure of 93 deaths announced yesterday evening as well as the huge challenges now facing hospitals.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said that while we are starting to see the early results of our collective efforts to minimise the transmission of the virus, we cannot afford to drop our guard against the very high levels of infection that remain in the community.

The number of people in hospital with the virus fell yesterday to 1,954, having been above 2,000 the previous day.

Minister Feighan says that although there’s a long way to go — with continuing adherence to restrictions essential — there are signs of hope.
