Big increase in Covid cases across north west region



There’s been a big increase in the 14-day incidence rate across the north west region.

The latest daily figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team shows 154 new cases were recorded in Co. Donegal, 24 in Sligo and 11 in Leitrim.

During the past 14 days, the Sligo/Strandhill area has had 285 new Covid-19 cases with a rate per 100,000 population of 1,348.9, that compares to 175 cases and a rate of 828.2 this time last week.

Sligo/Drumcliffe had 220 cases in the last 14 days with a rate of 1,244.7; there were 141 cases and the rate was 797.7 a week ago.

The figures for Ballymote/Tubbercurry was 238 new cases and an incidence rate of 890.4 compared to 164 cases and a rate of 613.5.

In the Manorhamilton area of Leitrim, there have been 83 cases in the past 14 days and a rate of 767; last friday there were 55 cases and the rate was 508.3.

Although there has been an increases in new cases in Leitrim, the county has the lowest 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 in the country for the past two days.

The Donegal electoral area has had 310 cases in the past fortnight and a rate of 1,170.2; there were 179 cases and the rate was 675.7.

There were 71,286 new cases recorded across the country in the last 14 days with a national incidence rate of 1,497.

And according to the latest information from the HSE, as of 8pm last night, there were no critical care beds available in Letterkenny University Hospital while 2 were available in Sligo University Hospital.
