Proposal for money collected through crime to be reinvested into local areas

A Sligo councillor is proposing that money collected under proceeds of crime laws be redirected from central coffers back to addiction services in the local areas from which the money came.

Independent Councillor Marie Casserly is asking Sligo County Council to write to the ministers for Justice, Finance and Public Expenditure to make provision for such a move.

She is suggesting that the money go to youth organisations and community initiatives dealing with the affects of addiction.

She is hoping that if enough people support the idea, it might become a reality.
