Donegal TD criticises government for not seeking payments breaks

A local TD is criticising the government for not seeking payments breaks for mortgage holders and SMEs.

Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Finance and Donegal TD, Pearse Doherty, believes it is a ‘slap in the face’ to those who have lost their job.

Deputy Doherty wrote to Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, who responded saying the government will not be seeking the payment break extension which the Sinn Fein TD believes is ‘abandoning’ borrowers, mortgage holders and SMEs.

Speaking to OceanFM News, he says the European Banking Authority revised their guidelines allowing for a such a procedure to take place and finds it’s unfortunate Ireland did not take advantage.
