Dixie Dean’s grand-daughter helped secure Rovers-Everton deal

There are several connections past and present between Sligo Rovers and Everton.

From Seamus Coleman to ‘Dixie’ Dean – and it is that latter connection which played a part in a new strategic partnership between the two clubs.

Dean’s grand-daughter, Melanie Prentice, played a role in getting the development off the ground, as Sligo Rovers Chairman Tommy Higgins explained to Ocean FM Sport:

Dean, a legendary star with Everton, signed for Sligo Rovers in 1939, scoring 10 goals in just seven games, and helped Rovers reach the FAI Cup final that year.
