Another injury setback for Áine Tighe

Áine Tighe’s cruel run of injuries and extended period on the sidelines is set to continue, with confirmation from her Australian Rules club Freemantle that she is “unlikely” to play in 2021.

Fremantle have confirmed that the Leitrim woman will be out for an extended period of the 2021 Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) season, after an arthroscopy — or keyhole surgery — last week revealed a significant medial meniscal tear in her left knee.

This comes as the latest injury setback for Tighe, who ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament on the same knee in Fremantle’s final pre-season fixture last January ahead of her debut season.

As a result, she missed the entire 2020 campaign, but stayed in Australia to rehabilitate.
