Mayo GP calls for regional curfews during pandemic

A north Mayo GP has called for regional overnight curfews to be introduced to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Dr Keith Swanick says a “transient curfew” from 9pm to 6am would help limit social interaction and tackle the rate of infection.

The Belmullet-based doctor said such curfews have proven effective in other parts of the world.

There’s been a surge in the number of people who have contracted the virus in the Belmullet area since Christmas.

Dr Swanick estimates that around one in every 50 people in the region now have the virus.
